"Here we protect our children and adolescents of commercial sexual exploitation"

How did
The strategy started to be executed in July, 2009; it had two starting points: The Renacer Foundation brought out an initiative to give an answer to the commercial sexual exploitation of children and teenagers situation in the touristic sector of the city since several years ago, which required the intervention of the sector to prevent this problem and fight it in an organized and structured way.
At the same time, the strategy came up from the Corporación Turismo as part of the Certification process of the city, as a touristic destination led by the Corporación del Turismo and the Vice-ministry of Tourism. This process was being designed based on three dimensions: economical, environmental and social-cultural. One of the criteria of the social-cultural dimension was that Cartagena needed to have ESCNNA prevention programs within the touristic sector.

Therefore, these two organizations have put together the objectives and have decided to sign an agreement and submit a proposal for the Canadian Agency for International Development - ACDI ? that approved and financed the proposal to be developed from the year 2009 to the year 2011.
The general objective of the strategy is to contribute in the construction of protective environments for childhood, through an articulated task which would include the State, social networks, touristic and complementary service providers, for prevention of ESCNNA within the travel and tourism context.

The entities which implemented the project were the Corporación Turismo (Tourism Corporation of Cartagena de Indias) and the Renacer Foundation, with the support of UNICEF.
